April 21. Russian Open Championship of Swing Dance took place. Event will be organized by "Tants-Class" Club, with supervising of "Swing Dance Federation". Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop and Balboa was performed on this event. It was 59 couples of following categories took part: Boogie Woogie and Lindy Hop Juniors and Junior-Beginners.
Adress: Lesnaya st. 59 – 1 (metro Belorusskaya or Mendeleevskaya), Buff theatre art-cafe, 2nd floor. This dance marathon was started with competition for children and ended by the adult couples competition continued till midnight. Classic Jazz Orchestra of Valery Kiselev took part in event too.
This competition was organized according to Russian Rules (see "Competitions" for details), but with some changes. What’s new?
Boogie-Woogie:
As a first time experience 3 categories performed.
- "Ñ" – the same as pure beginners class: One dance - 1 or 1.5 minutes on the tempo of 44-46 bars per minutes. Judging is in accordance with current rules.
- "Â" - "preparation" to Main Class: Slow Final (33-35 bars per minute) and Fast Final (47-49 bars per minute) 1 or 1.5 minutes each, without choice of phonogram. Judging is in accordance with current rules.
- "À" – the same as Main Class.
So it used to be 3 categories. "D" category is saved for those who never compete before:) Also for those who can perform Sigle-time or, Double-time basic step. There was not such category this time.
Lindy-Hop.
Beginners perform one dance - 1 or 1.5 minutes on the tempo of 44-46 bars per minute. Judging is in accordance with current rules There was no such category this time.
Main Class Impro Devision – can participate in separated categories, but final places decision will be based on overall results. Single category winners will be reward with medals only. Final titles and ranking marks will be awarded according to the total sum of results. If you do not take part in one of "Impro" division category or in Show case" division it will be equal to the cellar place in that category. First time we used the title: "All Division Champions", for a couple compete in Impro and Slow both.
It used to be Lindy Slow (24-30 bars per minute), Lindy Middle (38-49 bars per minute), Lindy Fast (52-60 bars per minute). Qualification was done with phonogram. Final Live was done with music. The fast round was done in jam format. Three turns for each couple. Each turn is equal for one chorus (ÀÀÂÀ-32 beats or 2õÀÀÂ-24 beats, depends on music). Judging is in accordance with current rules.
Balboa.
Judging. Sense of rhythm; Work inside the couple; Foot work; Elegances; Musicality.
Beginners was planned to perform one dance - 1 or 1.5 minutes on the tempo of 44-46 bars per minute. Judging is in accordance with current rules. But the only one couple checked in compete in maim class.
Main Class must perform in qualification Pure Balboa. One dance - 1 or 1.5 minutes on the tempo of 52-60 bars per minute. In the final must be performed ball-swing in jam format with live music in the tempo 54-56 bars per minute. Three turns for each couple. Each turn is equal for one chorus (ÀÀÂÀ-32 beats or 2õÀÀÂ-24 beats, depends on music).
